Aviva Canada has announced a collaboration with venture capital firm Highline Beta that will see the launch of a new insurtech solution. The focus of the partnership will be the availability of an accelerator program that seeks to develop innovations that boost road safety.

Called the “Safe x Connected Cities Accelerator”, the program is a challenge-based project that will engage startups that have already shown advancements in road safety ideas. In a press release Aviva Canada said the insurtech solution will also engage with startups with a proven ability in handling mobility and smart city innovations.

Coaching will be available to participating companies, giving them access to enterprise partners that will place their products in the market for testing. Furthermore, the accelerator will help start-ups scale these projects by helping to convert pilot programs into commercial deals.

Aviva and Highline Beta says they are now looking for collaboration from corporations, start-ups, industry professionals, and global experts on how road safety can be improved. This period will last for six months, of which the first half will put participants through Highline Beta’s acceleration programming.

Aviva Canada will work with participants to create potential commercial opportunities for their ideas.

Over the remaining half of the six-month period, participants that receive a commercial agreement will be able to scale their pilot ideas and potentially receive investment from Highline Beta.

“Collaboration is the best approach to creating safer and more connected cities across Canada,” commented Highline Beta founding partner and CEO Marcus Daniels. “No one company or organization can solve today’s mobility challenges alone.”
