As we head into Christmas and New Year, many Canadians will be leaving their cars at home and traveling in other ways. Uber and other ride-sharing companies have become hugely popular, especially in major cities. However, the services also practice what is known as surge pricing, essentially raising their fares at busy times.

While this is controversial, it has not stopped customers flocking to Uber. If are using a ride-sharing service this holiday season, here’s how you can beat surge pricing:
