A week after an official naming, the Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) has launched its My Proof of Insurance eDelivery platform. The solution gives CSIO member companies the ability to digitally send policy documents to consumers, which can be used as proof for personal lines of insurance.
The eSlips are now officially available, even if many insurance companies will not be able to use My Proof of Insurance. That’s because regulatory approval has not been granted in most Canadian provinces.
CSIO has been developing its solution over the last few years and announced last year it would debut the solution during the first quarter of 2018. Unfortunately, despite having plenty of time, regulators have not implemented the necessary legislation changes needed for customers to use eSlips as insurance policy proof.
The solution gives brokers and carriers the power to:

As more regulators join Nova Scotia in approving eSlips, we anticipate that consumer demand for this solution will grow.”
Nova Scotia is the only province that has opened the door to eSlips. In January, the insurance regulator in the province approved use of electronic proof of insurance. The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) has urged other provinces to follow suit. The association for insurance regulators said this month:
“Given today’s advanced digital marketplace, the CCIR recommends that EPAI [Electronic Proof of Auto Insurance] be made available in Canada alongside the traditional paper proof of insurance.”
The CCIR added that “in some jurisdictions, there are challenges that need to be addressed before moving forward. In particular, jurisdictions must work with their partners to ensure operational concerns identified during…stakeholder feedback are satisfied.”
