IBC CAMP lands in flood stricken Brantford, Ontario

As the weather warms the flood season is starting with snow melt causing rivers to overflow and communities to be submerged. Home and tenant insurance customers are often inadequately covered through normal insurance. In Brantford, Ontario, the floods have started so the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has sent its support staff into the community.

The Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion (CAMP) is now on the ground in Brantford and will aid residents and businesses affected by the floods. IBC representatives will help people understand their insurance options and answer concerns.

CAMP has setup at the Doug Snooks Eagle Place Community Centre to help residents affected by water damage and seeking advice on home and tenant insurance claims.

“We advise residents that they should contact their insurance representative to determine whether or not they have coverage,” said IBC Ontario vice-president Kim Donaldson. “Overland flooding is an option in insurance coverage and not every consumer has chosen this feature. Sewer back-up often is included, but that too depends on your coverage.”

The bureau also suggests consumers to contact its Consumer Information Centre for additional information on the claims process for flood damages. IBC created the CAMP program as a national initiative to help victims of disasters. Expert insurance professionals staff the emergency shelters to help victims of natural disasters.
