IBC furthers CO detector initiative

The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has announced a collaboration with Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli on an environmental initiative. In a press release, the bureau said it will donate carbon monoxide detectors to locals in the municipality.

IBC confirmed it has donated an additional 25 CO detectors to the food bank in Callander, Ontario. In total, the bureau has donated 1,000 detectors to fire departments in the province, which are then distributed to locals. With Fedeli’s help, a further 1,500 detectors will be issued this summer.

“I am happy to be donating these lifesaving CO detectors today,” Fedeli said. “Carbon monoxide poisoning is easily preventable.  Donations like these help raise much needed awareness of the importance of guarding against carbon monoxide.”

“Despite the serious threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, many Canadians do not have CO detectors in their home,” said IBC Ontario vice-president Kim Donaldson in a statement. “Events like today help create awareness about the steps Ontarians can take to protect themselves and their families.”

CO poisoning is a real threat and is known as a silent killer. The IBC says 250 Ontarians have died from CO poisoning over the last 15 years.
