ICBC Says Road Improvements

By: , Published on , Last Update on April 22, 2016 01:29 PM

The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) says that its efforts to improve the quality of roads in the province has had a dramatic effect on reducing in severe injury and property damage from auto collisions.

A partnership in road improvements resulted in a 24 per cent reduction in crashes that ended in severe injury or death and a 15 per cent reduction in Property Damage Only (PDO) claims. The 2015 Program Evaluation Report released on Monday shows that crash data from 111 locations over a three year period points to a reduction after road improvements have been made.

ICBC says this resulted in claims savings as the PDO collision frequency slipped:

“We’ve been working together with ICBC and local governments on road improvement projects for two-and-a-half decades,” said Todd Stone, British Columbia’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, in the press release. “These projects have brought immediate benefits for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in communities across B.C. The evaluation results are evidence that the road improvement program is working.”
