Vehicle sales in Canada over the month of November fell year-on-year, although overall sales for 2017 are still expected to top 2016’s. DesRosiers Automotive Consultants has released its latest market data, showing new cars and light trucks sold dipped during the last month.

Light vehicle sales slipped 1.2 per cent to 158,653 in November compared with 160,573 during the same period of 2016. Car sales were the reason for this decline, with new vehicle sales falling 10 per cent to 44,061 during November, compared to 48,945 the previous year.

Light truck sales almost managed to address the balance with an increase to 114,592, from 111,628 year-on-year.

In terms of individual manufacturers, Ford’s sales percentage fell in November by 2.8 per cent to 23,775. This time last year, the automaker enjoyed 24,450 vehicle sales. General Motors was hit hard last month as its sales fell 17.2 per cent year-on-year, from 28,523 to 23,612. FCA sales fell 7.8 per cent to 19,054 compared with 20,674 a year ago.

Despite a decline through November, Canada’s vehicles sales will almost certainly increase in 2017 compared to 2016. This year, several months have experienced year-on-year declines, but nevertheless, overall light vehicle sales year-to-date are at 1.91 million through 11 months. During the January to November frame in 2016, 1.82 million vehicles were sold.
