Lyft looks to Canada for expansion

In terms of ride-sharing in Canada, Uber has largely had its own way. The company paved the way for the model to work in the country, and has only had to contend with small-scale competitors. However, Uber’s biggest rival could now be ready to land in Canada.

Lyft is reported to be looking to Canada as an ideal area for expansion. If entering the market, the company would benefit from not having to walk a regulatory minefield. Uber’s illegal and rogue expansion saw the company battle with authorities until regulatory permission was granted, with concessions, in numerous cities and municipalities.

If Lyft arrives in Canada, it will be able to start operating based on the pre-existing regulations. It is not just in Canada where Lyft is looking to take the fight to Uber. The company is also reportedly looking to the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.

Lyft is available in 300 cities in the United States and is Uber’s main rival in its home market. If the company carries out expansion plans, it will give customers another key alternative in the ride-sharing market.
