A new study has found most Canadians are in favour of keeping ridesharing services, such Uber. A recent poll conducted by Nanos Research found that six in 10 Canadians (62%) oppose or somewhat oppose the potential banning of ride-for-hire companies.

Respondents were asked their level of support for banning companies live Uber. More three in five (41%) oppose the banning, and 21% are somewhat opposed. Three in 10 Canadians (11%) support and 18% somewhat support the removal of ridesharing companies. Nine per cent of respondents remains unsure.

The margin of error for this poll (n=1000) is ±3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

“The results of the survey clearly show that Canadians enjoy the expanded options offered by ridesharing services like Uber,” said David Clement, North American affairs manager of the CCC, in the release.

“Not only that, this demonstrates that legislative moves to ban, or over-regulate, ridesharing goes against the wishes of the public at large. Legislators should take note of public opinion on ridesharing and avoid heavy handed regulations, or outright bans, on ridesharing services,” Clement suggested.

Other objectives of the poll were opinions on other sharing economies, such as homesharing companies like Airbnb. 37 per cent of Canadians say they are opposed to banning homesharing solutions, with 23% somewhat opposed.
