Gas prices in British Columbia are soaring, but customers continue to buy gas guzzling vehicles. Indeed, the most popular vehicle in the province during 2018 was the Ford F150 XLT Supercrew pickup, says the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).

Maybe that’s not much of a surprise because variations of the F150 are the most popular vehicle across Canada. However, it does show customers in B.C. are perhaps willing to trade high gas prices for the popular truck.

However, CBC News reports the top ten most popular vehicles in British Columbia are split between heavy fuel consumption cars and fuel economy focused sedans and cross-overs.

During 2017, the ICBC issued nearly 2.5 million auto insurance policies. Top 10 data from the public monopoly provider only shows some of these vehicles. That’s because the company issues policy on a specific vehicle, such as the F150 XLT Supercrew and not just all Ford F150’s.

Through 2017 and 2018, small vehicles outnumber trucks in appearances, but not necessarily in sales or policies. Either way, Honda is a popular brand with the Honda CR-V and Honda Civic appearing on the lists. Toyota Corolla is another car that appears on both lists.
