In case you missed the memo, Facebook is no longer the social media place to be. Yes, a broker or insurer will drum up plenty of business by advertising on Facebook, but slowly Instagram is becoming the social network of choice. Economical Insurance advises brokers to quickly adopt Instagram and reap the benefits.

Instagram is a Facebook-owned image-based network that has grown on the back of celebrity and teen support. However, businesses are now waking up to the potential of Instagram and its Stories feature.

More than 400 million people use Instagram every day, so the timing is perfect for brokers to take advantage of the opportunity.

“Instagram is a great channel to share content and share your team culture because at the end of the day, I think people are going to be more comfortable buying from a human and buying from a team that represents their values,” said Naheed Somji, social media specialist for Economical Insurance.

“With social media, your goal is not necessarily to sell. Content that works is content that is helpful and specific to insurance,” Somji said in an interview.

Somji points to how brokers can engage with customers on Instagram to solve some simple problems. For example, customers are often confused about basic insurance terms and could connect with brokers on social networks.

“Not everyone understands what comprehensive coverage is or what third-party liability really mans. For the brokers that answer those questions in social media content, before the customers ask them in person – those are the ones that are establishing themselves as thought leaders,” said Somji.
